Welcome to my Blog

A little background on why I’ve started this blog journey — along with a welcome to the ride.

A space to let it out.

A space to write.

A space for me.

You probably think you already know quite a lot about Lex but the truth is; you don’t. No matter how open and social you are online, no one ever truly gets to know you like they do in person. I do however believe that sometimes writing can be far more powerful than speech. Not literally in a communication sense but for me personally, I find it easier to be vulnerable in writing than I do in speech - on camera or in person.

What about you?

Are you the kind of person who experiences something traumatic and needs to write until their hands are raw to process it? Would you rather write an essay sometimes than just use your mouth to speak? Need a list to just ‘ see it in writing’? Cos’ yeah same.

It’s funny because I’m not the kinda person who ignores your call to text you right after. No disrespect if that is you, I see you too. Despite having chronic anxiety myself, I do feel like 4 years on the phone down at the garage really encouraged me to be okay with that side of things.

Crowded spaces with sensory-overload though, no thanks. I have limits.

I find social media, particularly Instagram, too temporary.

Don’t get me wrong I love the 'story’ function on Insta but to be honest, it is somewhat useless in a business sense for engaging clients with information you want them to have access to constantly. Tangent here but the ‘highlights’ function — also great but people rarely take the time to tap through them, let alone read and absorb them.

You have a pricing highlight, right? Watch your next client DM you for your prices. 😴

Not the client’s fault.

Just Instagram (and every other social media out there to be honest) encouraging temporariness and short-attention-span-shit.

Anyway, social media = temporary, somewhat personal but can also make you distant.

Blog posts = less temporary, more personal and engaging somehow.

For instance, I can show you this boss-ass-brunch I made for myself the other day.

Trust when I say I’m a simple person and food is in fact the key to my heart.

IDK — there’s something weird about posting your brunch on your business pages’ stories when you finally cook yourself something up at 2PM but, on your blog? Be my guest!

Also, let me know in the comments if you want the recipe to that chilli jam relish. 😉

In essence, I started this blog so that I could write. I came to this country age 7 and bilingual but predominantly speaking Greek. I wasn’t fabulous at English. I’m still not fabulous at English but I do try my best to convey myself well in writing. You can take your time and edit. I find it disturbs my flow if I can’t make sense of written communication. That’s why I feel so well-suited to being a designer — having the skill to convey both written and visual communication is a blessing. I have always had to work really hard with English but for that I’ve had the chance to be truly fascinated by it.

I studied English Language at A-Level. I got a C. Was pretty chuffed with that! I feel like the real winner is probably getting a First for my Dissertation module at uni. That was really special. 8,800~ words of my writing got the best grade it could. Over the moon.

At 14, I started reading people’s short-novels online. I probably started writing back then too but didn't pick it back up or start editing and taking it seriously again until I was 16.

Fast-forward to September 2021, I’m 22 and came across my diary from when I was 11. My past self inspired me to document, to savour and to express.

Why did I ever stop keeping a diary?

I decided to journal.

As you can see I did somewhat well to keep track of my thoughts. This started as a daily thing but became too laborious for me in the end to physically write. I tried to journal when I felt an overflow of emotion. My Cancers out there will definitely know what I mean. This sometimes meant I was drawing for all-hours of the day then intensely writing using the same medium (my iPad, iPencil and trusty Procreate). Nicht gut.

I hope that by switching up the medium, posting online and encouraging my wonderful community to join the journey will be great for me and the LEXperience website.

I wanted to drive more of you folks over here too, anyway.

This space will be an open area for me to unload what’s going on with me and update you on things I just don’t really fancy posting on Insta.

I hope you enjoyed the read.
Catch y’all in another life.

Lex 💚
